you are not a salmon, è un progetto multidisciplinare e cross-mediale che muove la sua azione nell’orbita del concetto di “inversioni di flussi”: dinamiche naturali che solo in apparenza sembrano sovvertire l’ordine costituito -tipico di una certa visione occidentale- in un divenire che evidenzia quell’innata vocazione della natura a contestare se stessa, rifondando le proprie leggi e restando di per sé perfetta e ineccepibile.
Ne è un esempio il salmone, essere vivente dalle caratteristiche singolari: nasce in acqua dolce, cresce in mare e raggiunta la maturità, risale la corrente del fiume per far ritorno lì dove è nato per riprodursi.
L’istinto lo porta a compiere un gesto che sembra paradossale (risalire la corrente), ma che in realtà sottende a delicati e precisi assetti. L’uomo ha seguito questo principio fondante nel compiere la propria evoluzione, applicandolo alla chimica, alla genetica, alla fisica, all’ingegneria perseguendo un modello di sviluppo dagli esiti controversi.
Il progetto ha al suo interno diverse aree di sviluppo e per la mostra presso la Placentia Arte sono state prodotte due installazioni site specific e due video. Sensibile alle tematiche di sostenibilità ambientale e sociale, alle problematiche energetiche e alimentari, alle nuove forme di adattamento imposte dalle variazioni climatiche, you are not a salmon vuole altresì mettere in luce contraddizioni e retoriche che sottendono a certi estremismi ecologici: W.E.L.T.O.K. Light, una enorme pila voltaica – basata su celle ad elettrolita naturale – che alimenta una scritta a led, rappresenta forse lo strumento di produzione energetica dai più alti costi di esercizio della storia e col più basso rendimento.
In tal senso la Green Economy potrebbe non essere l’agognata oasi nel deserto , ma solo il bieco miraggio dello stesso occhio miope. Se è vero che i processi evolutivi hanno determinato un progressivo rifiuto di un certo lavoro e l’affermarsi di forme di evoluzionismo sociale basate sulla rendita, piuttosto che sulla produzione, è altrettanto vero che il macroscopico limite di tale sistema è sotto gli occhi di tutti e gli effetti devastanti ancor più. you are not a salmon, is a multidisciplinary and cross-media project that moves its action within the orbit of the concept of "reversals of flows": natural dynamics that only superficially appear to subvert the established order – typical of a certain western vision- in a becoming which highlights the innate vocation of nature to challenge herself, but this also applies its own laws and prejudice itself perfect and flawless.
One example is the salmon, a living being with unique features: born in fresh water, grows in the sea and reached maturity, traces the river current to return there where was born to reproduce. The instinct leads him to make a gesture that seems paradoxical (trace the current), but which in reality behind delicate and precise trim. The man followed this founding principle in accomplishing his own evolution, applied chemistry, genetics, physics, pursuing an engineering, developing a model with controversial results.
The project has various development areas and for the exhibition at Placentia Arte were produced two site-specific installations and two videos. Sensitive to issues of social and environmental sustainability, energy and food issues, new forms of adjustment imposed by climatic variations, you are not a salmon wants to also highlight contradictions and rhetoric underlying certain ecological extremism: W.E.L.T.O.K. Light, is a big voltaic cell -based on natural electrolyte- that feeds an inscription led and represents perhaps the energy production from higher operating costs of the story and with the lowest productivity.
In this sense, the Green Economy may not be the desired oasis in the desert, but only the sinister mirage of the same myopic eye. If it is true that evolutionary processes have led to a progressive rejection of some work and the emergence of forms of social evolutionism based on income rather than on production, it is equally true that the macroscopic limit of this system is under everybody’s eyes and even more devastating effects.
