Con good day – bad day, Rita Casdia ritorna a Palermo con una mostra personale alla Galleria Nuvole, nella nuova sede di vicolo Ragusi, portando un lavoro complesso, costituito, come è ormai da tempo nella sua ricerca, da un mix di lavori che nella loro interazione costruiscono una forte situazione emozionale: una serie di disegni – Rainbow and Shadows (Arcobaleni e Ombre) di dimensioni variabili; l’installazione House e il video Smather.
good day – bad day è un passo in avanti verso la maturità, uno scavo profondo nella memoria privata, una riflessione sul legame con la Sicilia, sua terra d’origine, e sulla ferita dell’allontanamento. La memoria è, questa volta più di altre, materia fondamentale su cui l’opera è costruita.
Oltre a nuovi elementi che ne arricchiscono la ricerca, si ritrovano comunque gli elementi caratteristici che hanno fatto di Rita Casdia una degli artisti più interessanti della scena artistica italiana (selezione Premio Cairo 2013, partecipazione alla rassegna Video.it alla Fondazione Mertz di Torino, selezione al Premio Ariane de Rothschild 2011 e il finanziamento del Festival Filmmaker di Milano che le consentirà di realizzare un nuovo video in stop motion sul tema la contrapposizione tra l’identità del corpo collettivo e l’emancipazione dell’individuo).
Rita Casdia vive e lavora a Milano, ma è legata da tempo alla Galleria Nuvole, che già nel 2005 presentava nello spazio di via Bonello Non mi trattengo dall’amarti – quattrocento figurine che conducevano alla visione di un video interattivo ironico e insieme feroce sui crudeli rituali della relazione amorosa –successivamente Criss Cross Loop nel 2008 e nel 2011 MiniBaby.

With her latest personal exhibition “good day – bad day”, Rita Casdia returns to Palermo once again. The exhibition will be held at the Galleria Nuvole, which has just moved to its new location in Vicolo Ragusi. She is bringing with her a complex mix of pieces, whose interaction builds up to a powerful, emotional situation. This type of complexity has long been a characteristic of her work and research. “good day – bad day” consists of a series of drawings in various dimensions called Rainbow and Shadows, an installation called House, and a video entitled Smather.
good day – bad day is a step forward towards maturity and a deep dig into personal memories. It is a reflection of the artist’s bond with Sicily, where her origins lie, and therefore, also a reflection of the pain of separation. This time, more than ever, the works of art are based on the subject matter of memory.
In addition to new elements that enrich the work, one will also find the characteristic elements that have rendered Rita Casdia one of Italy’s most interesting artists (selected entry for the Cairo 2013 Prize, participation in the Video.it Exhibition of the Merz Foundation in Turin, selected entry for the Ariane de Rothschild 2011 Prize, and funding from the Filmmaker Festival of Milan to produce a new video in stop motion about the conflict between the identity of the collective body and the emancipation of the individual).
Rita Casdia lives and works in Milan, but she has been collaborating with the Galleria Nuvole for quite some time. In 2005, Rita presented “Non mi trattengo dall’amarti” (“I Won’t Stop Myself from Loving You”) at its former location in Via Bonello. This presentation showcased four hundred figurines in an interactive, ironic, and ferocious video about the cruel rituals of an amorous relationship. This presentation was followed by Criss Cross Loop in 2008 and MiniBaby in 2011.
