UNA è lieta di presentare Ecfrasi, mostra personale di Riccardo Giacconi (*1985, San Severino Marche, MC).
La mostra raccoglie in un’unica installazione diversi momenti della recente produzione artistica di Riccardo Giacconi: estratti dal suo film sul cantautore italiano Alberto Camerini, maschere in legno realizzate con artigiani in Barbagia, una serie di abiti di scena, tre tende in plastica ispirate a paraventi orientali.
Come indizi, suggeriscono l’ipotesi di una risonanza tra la traiettoria artistica di Camerini e il passaggio dagli anni Settanta agli Ottanta in Italia – chiamato ancora, a volte, “riflusso”, a indicare un generale ripiegamento nella sfera privata e un disimpegno politico e sociale. Le diverse personae del cantautore sono evocate – l’Arlecchino, il cyber-punk, il robot.
I lavori si dispongono come oggetti di scena, prima o dopo uno spettacolo: costumi dai colori brillanti, che rivelano tagli e chiusure inaspettate; maschere butterate, scolpite in un legno devastato dagli insetti, sono peraltro testimonianze di un insistente interesse per il tema del corpo, le sue deformazioni e costrizioni.
Ecfrasi – ovvero descrizione di un’immagine – è una mostra sul tentativo di incarnarsi in un corpo altro, costruito attraverso trucchi e travestimenti, simboli e gesti.
La mostra è accompagnata da un testo critico di Valentina Lacinio.
Riccardo Giacconi (1985, San Severino Marche, MC) vive e lavora a Milano. Giacconi ha studiato Arti Visive all’Università IUAV di Venezia e ha conseguito un PhD presso la Leiden University (NL). Il suo lavoro è stato presentato in diversi musei e istituzioni, tra cui: Grazer Kunstverein (Graz); ar/ge Kunst (Bolzano), FRAC Champagne-Ardenne (Reims), MAC (Belfast), WUK Kunsthalle Exnergasse (Vienna), MAMbo (Bologna) e Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Torino). È stato artista in residenza presso Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen (Innsbruck), Centre international d’art et du paysage (Vassivière), lugar a dudas (Cali), MACRO (Roma) e La Box (Bourges). I suoi film sono stati presentati all’interno di numerosi festival internazionali, come la Mostra del Cinema di Venezia, il New York Film Festival, l’International Film Festival Rotterdam, Visions du Réel e il FID Marseille International Film Festival, dove ha vinto il Gran Premio della competizione internazionale nel 2015. Nel 2007 ha co-fondato il collettivo Blauer Hase, con il quale cura la pubblicazione periodica Paesaggio e il festival Helicotrema.

UNA is delighted to present Ecfrasi, a solo show by Riccardo Giacconi (*1985, San Severino Marche, MC).
The exhibition presents an immersive installation featuring various moments of Riccardo’s recent research: excerpts from his film dedicated to Italian singer-songwriter Alberto Camerini, wooden handmade masks carved by craftsmen from Barbagia (central Sardinia); a series of stage costumes, three plastic curtains inspired by oriental folding screens.
These works suggest a possible resonance between the artistic career of Camerini and the so-called “riflusso”: a general resignation to the private sphere and a concomitant political and social disengagement that characterized the transition from the 70s to the 80s in Italy.
The installation evokes the various personae embodied by the singer-songwriter – Harlequin, cyber-punker, robot.
The artworks are arranged in the exhibition space as props and backdrops, before or after a performance. The bright colorful costumes conceal unexpected cuts and pleats; the masks, pockmarked and carved in a wood devastated by insects, reveal an abiding interest in bodily deformations and constrictions.
Ecfrasi [Ekphrasis: description of an image] is an exhibition about the attempt to inhabit an other body, which has been constructed through make-up and disguises, symbols and gestures.
The exhibition is accompanied by a text by Valentina Lacinio.
Riccardo Giacconi (1985, San Severino Marche, Italy) lives and works in Milan. Giacconi studied fine arts at the University IUAV of Venezia, and he obtained a PhD from the PhDArts program of Leiden University. His work has been exhibited in various institutions, such as Grazer Kunstverein (Graz), ar/ge kunst (Bozen/Bolzano), FRAC Champagne-Ardenne (Reims), MAC (Belfast), WUK Kunsthalle Exnergasse (Vienna), MAMbo (Bologna), and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin). He was artist-in-residence at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen (Innsbruck), Centre international d’art et du paysage (Vassivière), lugar a dudas (Cali), MACRO Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome and La Box (Bourges).
